About Me

Hi! Thanks for coming to my website to learn about OCD and my practice.

My name is Carla Kenney. I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) specializing in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related disorders. I have been treating children, teens, and adults for over twenty years. I started my career working in the field of mental health in 1998 while I was an undergraduate student at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2000.

In 2001, I began working as a counselor at the OCD Institute at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts where I was trained in the treatment of OCD by the top clinicians in the field. In 2005, I graduated from Assumption College Graduate School and received my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. I was also awarded certificates for my completion and concentration in Child & Family Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy from the Aaron T. Beck Institute for Cognitive Studies.

Throughout the years, I have worked in a variety of settings, which include hospitals; schools; supportive living; therapeutic programs; and a group practice.

I use evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), exposure response prevention (ERP), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness.

I have been a professional member of the International OCD Foundation for many years, and I have served as President and Vice President on the board of directors for both OCD Massachusetts and OCD Rhode Island. Currently, I serve as President for OCDRI and VP for OCDMA.

I started the OCD & Related Disorders Lectures Series at UMass Medical School, which ran monthly for several years, but ended as a result of the COVID pandemic. I also helped run support groups for individuals and loved ones affected by OCD.

On a more personal note, I am a lover of all animals and am intensely involved in animal rescue here in the US and internationally. I have several rescued dogs and cats. Often, one of them will accompany me to office, providing comfort.
